MEDICINAL CANNABIS…. THE COMPLETE STORY

A life of its own – The truth about Medical Marijuana has screened on Netflix and SBS Australia

When I first decided to embark on this documentary, it wasn’t even a conscious decision. It just happened. At the time I was working as a senior reporter on the Sunday Night program for the Seven Network.  I was assigned a story that would change the course of my life.

The story was about a 24 year old battling bowel cancer. His name was Dan Haslam and he lived in Tamworth (the home of country music). The story was receiving a lot of press attention, because Dan was using medicinal cannabis to not only relieve pain and nausea from chemotherapy, but he was also treating his cancer with cannabis oil.

What made things especially interesting is that he was encouraged down this path by his parents Lucy (a nurse) and Lou Haslam (a retired drug squad detective).  They believed so strongly in the curative power of medicinal cannabis they felt the story needed to be shared with the broader community.

The story became the catalyst in launching a national campaign to legalise medicinal cannabis. Many families came forward to tell their story and it was a case of people ahead of politics. A grass roots campaign had gained the momentum of an avalanche within months.

A life of its own takes the story further. Compelled to do this without any editorial interference I made the decision to fund the film myself which allowed me to travel around Australia and throughout Israel – a country recognised as a world-leader in medicinal cannabis research and use.

What was found through interviews with medical practitioners, researchers and patients was remarkable and as it took on a life of its own, a new and more compelling story emerged about why we are still fighting to gain ready access to a plant acknowledged widely for its healing properties.

Welcoming in the New Year

By industry news

With heavy hearts we recognize the devastating impact the bush fires have had on many communities across the country. We reflect on the loss of lives, homes, livelihood, landscapes and wildlife. We extend gratitude and thanks to all those involved in fighting the fires and supporting communities impacted. To all our families, friends and Australian colleagues we are thinking of you – stay safe over the coming months.

Looking forward, we move into January with renewed enthusiasm and new goals for 2020. This month we reset, and focus on new projects, scope for opportunities and foster partnerships – new and existing.

It’s these new partnerships that bring us our first new release for the year. A film five years in the making and shot across three continents, ambitiously titled The World’s Best Film.

Produced by Australian Joshua Belinfante, the quirky and off beat documentary searches the world for those brave enough to pursue their passions and become the very best in their chosen field.

We also love working with homegrown talent, who are passionate about bringing uniquely Australian stories to audiences. Upcoming series, Chronicles X, takes a genre-bending look at some of Australia’s most curious locations. This new format melds podcast with first hand interviews and down right spooky shenanigans set in infamous locations. Chronicles X, is one for those with a love of history and a healthy curiosity for the paranormal. Set against this stunning backdrop, FLATS is the story of one man’s dream to design and build the ultimate Salt Flat racer in pursuit of the land speed record.

Up in the Northern Territory, you can join the boys from Black As while they hunt for adventure and a good feed in Arnhem Land. Survive the crocs, eat bush tucker and take a wild ride in an off beat and off track, bush bash!

In 2020, our flagship automotive series Graveyard Carz will reach new heights with the release of it’s 12th season, now screening on Motortrend in the USA. “Christine”, a 1958 Plymouth Fury, steals the show – so this season is going to be killer!

Another highlight from 2019, was the premiere of football diversity and inclusion documentary series Be Dragons on Fox Sports Australia, to an overwhelming public response. We were thrilled and humbled to help bring this series to life and into the screens and hearts of millions of Australians.

Returning to the year ahead, we are on the look out to expand our partnerships with producers both here and abroad. We always work with passionate content creators, who have both talent and great stories to share and this year is no different.

Be Dragons seeks crowdfunding support

By business, Football

Producing Be Dragons TV series has been an inspiring journey. Enriched with new friendships and one filled with gratitude for the players and all those who have supported the team and TV series. It’s your story and one that we are proud to be bringing to life and to audiences across Australia.

So far, through the tireless efforts, talent and enthusiasm of Luke Massey and his production team, the six part series has been produced and edited with donated time and resources.

But now we need help from the community, friends and family to get Be Dragons ready for national broadcast.

Our crowdfunding campaign is now live util May 26th, and it’s success means we can cover the out-of-pocket costs associated with the post-production process. Without which, this story of our courageous team may never be told…

It’s an all or nothing campaign so we need to hit our target to ensure success.

From all of us at Be Dragons, we thank you so much for your support.

Hello 2019

By news

It’s common at this time of year, to reflect on what’s been. The highs and lows of the year past and the changes you want to see, to action, to make HAPPEN in the year ahead.

As all those in the TV game know, it can be exhausting keeping up with the ever-changing industry. The evolution of new technologies facilitates growth rapidly, providing scope for new platforms, formats, development opportunities and funding structures, almost daily. And the list goes on…

Meadow has had a year of change. Pivots in direction, the forming of new partnerships and saying good-bye to others. We ALWAYS seek to work with like-minded people, teams and incredible talent and we always will.

Since our inception in 2014, our goal was to forge our own way, to offer a service that filled the gaps. One founded on authenticity, passion, transparency. A home that could foster a supportive environment, to collaborate with those creative minds that fit with our ethos and mission.

We wanted to be open, to freely share ideas and information, which, is all to often keep under lock and key…hardly providing a supportive playground for those young producers or talent wanting to learn, eager to charge ahead. Those that are the future of content creation, and brains behind how it will be consumed.

After all, what purpose does it serve to close ranks, to keep hidden what you’ve learnt, to not nurture? It seemed to us, that the old way…those that were scared of change, those decision makers that wouldn’t take the time to respond, were the ones holding us all back.

So here we are looking forward to a new year, one, which we suspect will bring in more change and for which we hope, will open many new doors and opportunities.

This is our official call out for new partnerships, great content and exciting development proposals. We look forward to continuing our existing relationships with our talented pool of producers and valued clients, both in Australia and internationally.

It’s with much gratitude and excitement that we move into 2019, with plans for our best year yet. New beginnings, fresh ideas and a wealth of amazing collaborations!

From us to you,

Lisa & Marilyn
